Ka Hale o Ku`u Hoaloha Hula
Aloha kakou! Welcome to Ka Hale o Ku`u Hoaloha Hula!
Here is a place where serious and inquiring students may learn about hula, the
beautiful culture from which hula has come, and some of the wonderful arts and
crafts associated with the dances of Hawai`i.
He haumana pa`a ka mana`o au. I have been blessed to learn hula from
well-qualified instructors, starting with Kalina D'Errico.
Much of my hula comes from Aunty Kau`i Brandt, who has dedicated her life to
sharing hula from Hawai`i to Florida, and with whom I still study. She is the 2007
recipient of the Ho`okahiko Award, among many other honors.
When I moved to California, Aunty Harriet Spalding, Mahealani Uchiyama, Rosalyn
Tung-Loong and Mikioi Iwamoto, among others, graciously taught me as well.
Uncle Hollis Baker of the Kaleponi Strings, and Uncle Kem "Kanikapila"
Ting-Loong, of the Royal Hawaiian Ukulele Band, welcomed me into their ukulele
bands.
Our classes incorporate not only the dance, but also language, music, history, and
the arts and crafts associated with hula.
Our mission is to grow in our skill in hula, in our appreciation of the Hawaiian
culture, and in our ability to share our knowledge and understanding as best we can,
according to the way we have been taught.
